Thank you for your answer to someone about going to camp and/or going to Mass. I wanted to add a comment.
I am a senior living in Iron Mountain for the summers. I make my home in Arizona during the winter. I am a member at another parish both in Arizona and Michigan, and I enjoy experiencing and visiting other parishes. I have attended Mass in Aurora and Niagara and enjoyed the Mass and being a part of the community.
And that is what I would like to say. As part of Christ's mystical body, we are expected to participate in Mass on Sundays. There are multiple Masses offered on Saturday evening and Sunday mornings that we have to times to choose from and we are fortunate in the Upper Peninsula with a number of churches to attend. Each offers a unique experience to share. When my husband and I were first married and traveling, we made a decision to think of traveling not as a time of missing Mass, but of having an experience at a different church.
We had many interesting and fond memories because of that choice. One was when we stopped for Mass in New Mexico and there was a casket in the middle aisle. It was a traditional "Hispanic" church and close to All Souls Day and they have special celebrations that we learned about. Another was when we visited a "Polish" church on the Wisconsin/Minnesota border with a special prayer chapel. There were many of these experiences. Camping is similar. It gives an opportunity to experience God with other members of His family.
